Poorly designed and/or
constructed buildings cause serious problems such as mold, excess energy
usage, poor indoor air quality, moisture issues, and the list goes on. It costs everyone
involved large amounts of money and time to remedy these issues, but the
simplest way to stop these problems is to avoid them in the first place!
At this workshop, you’ll learn how to identify potential problems in
advance, design to avoid problems, collaborate with the general
contractor and subcontractors, benchmark and measure performance, and
teach (using the results from the benchmarking and measurements)
everyone on the jobsite to avoid defects.
Participants will learn:
How to form a collaborative team between the owner, design team
and contractor.
Defining the expectations and risk tolerance levels of clients.
Common construction hotspots and how to prevent defects.
How to greatly reduce the likelihood of expensive and
unnecessary lawsuits.
Target Audience:
Building Owners, Architects, Engineers and Building Contractors
This fast-paced workshop is all about
using simple science and engineering principles to help you
avoid construction defects in new and existing buildings. Discussion and
presentation will be specific to management of building
construction issues and integrated management systems to
solve and prevent problems.
This workshop will identify and evaluate
alternative solutions based upon the lessons we’ve learned
from forensic investigations on buildings that have failed.
This is your chance to learn from somebody else's
mistakes!

I’m a recent
graduate learning every day. I was afraid of missing a day
of production for this program- I am glad I decided to
attend!
I learned
moisture control methods that they didn’t teach me in school
and the details/wall sections you gave us are super.
I’ll be able to
use what I learned on every project.

I really
appreciate your approach to coordination between disciplines
and collaboration with contractors and owners.
When you add
the building envelope discussion into the mix, it brings me
to recommend this program.

Just because
there is a new building material, doesn’t mean we should
innovate and use it- until we’ve tested and analyzed it. The
concept of building science reminds me that designing and
building new buildings is becoming more and more a building
science.

What Bugs You?
Is
there anything on this website that bugs you? Sure
there is. Just let me know what. If I can fix it, I
will. Report a Bug!
No bug is too small
to fix. I appreciate being told so much that I even
offer a reward. I give away a product worth no less
than $50 for the best bug of the month!
